How To Perform A Bowel Massage
Dr. Cheryl Wisinski, PT, DPT, WCS, (owner Midwest Physical Therapy Services) discusses one method to combat constipation with a gentle bowel massage you can perform yourself. This gentle massage should be performed with a light touch. Using very little pressure, (light enough that it would not leave an impression on a sponge) start at the right side of your abdomen (ascending colon, right vertical) move your hand up along colon, then move your hand under your ribs, (transverse colon) towards your left side, then move your hand from top to bottom (descending colon, left vertical).
